Guard Your Doors
Schmersal India shares the advantages of using safety
magnetic switches.
Safety door switch
with separate actuator has been a very common safety device used
widely by all machine manufacturers and users for emergency stop
application in many industries. Prior to the introduction of safety
devices, limit switches with actuating lever or proximity switches
were used. However they could easily be by-passed by the operator.
With the growing demand
of safety fo the operator and uninterrupted process, need was
felt to implement a limit switch which cannot be by-passed. This
lead to the outcome of safety switches with separate actuator.
The actuator is mounted on the moving door and the switch on the
fixed frame of the door. When the door opens, the actuator comes
out of the switch and thus gives a stop command to machine to
avoid any access to the moving parts of the machine by the operator.
However, this device
requires mechanical engagement of the actuator and movement of
the cam and hence the life is limited. Moreover, it is prone to
malfunctions under dusty environment and there is also a chance
of actuator breakage if the doors are misaligned during course
of operation. In certain applications the size is too big for
small acrylic doors and thus cannot have concealed mounting as
per safety norms.
The solution to the
above is a \'safety magnetic switch\' which gets actuated by a
coded magnet only. Here again the coded magnet is mounted on the
guard door and the switch on the fixed frame of the door. The
magnetic safety sensor is insensitive to lateral misalignment
up to ±5mm. There are no mechanical movements involved
and hence life-span increases manifold. Moreover it is available
in small sizes making it suitable for small acrylic doors with
concealed mounting.
There are versions
available in stainless steel meeting protection and hygiene standards,
thus making it suitable for food & pharma industry or other
applications where cleaning with high pressure water is required.
The magnetic safety switches can come in either pre-wired cable
version or a connector version as per the requirement.
