The
Future of Coding and Marking
Hewlett-Packard
(HP) patented the Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) technology more
than 25 years ago, and it has been a success in the
home and office printing environments. Today, this technology
is used in many industrial printing applications like
high-speed direct mail, 2D digital postage printing,
security printing and in package coding, it is used
to print addresses, 1D and 2D barcodes, as well as serial
numbers.
The Specialty Printing Systems (SPS) group at HP licenses
the TIJ technology to OEMs who provide innovative printing
solutions to the industrial market.
Where the conventional package coding printers are expensive
and require regular maintenance by trained technicians,
the new TIJ technology has many advantages. The TIJ
technology is considered extremely reliabile as its
proven inkjet cartridge technology works best for high
volume industrial printing applications like direct
mail. TIJ has made inroads into package coding applications
particularly in the food and pharmaceutical markets.
Also, HP’s inkjet cartridge includes both the ink supply
and print head. The system only ejects ink when printing,
thus minimizing solvent evaporation. HP’s inks are environmentally
responsible, dry fast and require minimal cleanup making
the technology green and clean. Other features include
low total cost ease of use and high-quality impressions.
