Benson Invests In New Machinery
Benson Group, the cartonboard packaging manufacturer, is installing a Fujifilm platesetter and three Bobst machines at its UK plants as part of its ongoing investment plan.
The fully automated PlateRite 8800II platesetter being installed at the firm's plant in Bardon, Leicestershire, will enable the firm to meet increased demand for shorter runs and the corresponding requirements for plates.
Benson Group managing director Mark Kerridge said the Bardon plant's output had trebled to £30m per year since 2000, in which average run lengths fell from 14,000 to 10,000 sheets. The PlateRite 8800II can make 42 press-ready B1 plates an hour.
Meanwhile, the firm is also installing a Bobst Alpina 110 window patching device at the site, as well as replacing two die-cutting machines to reduce a bottle-neck in production by providing shorter make-ready times and faster production.
Integrated Packaging in Gateshead will install a Bobst Spanthera 106 and PDG in Newcastle a Bobst 104ER.
Kerridge said the investments would help the firm `produce work on time, with maximum efficiency and at a profit`.
