Bausch n` Lomb Plans Pharma Foray
Co weighing market trends

Bausch & Lomb plans to enter the ophthalmic pharmaceutical market in India. As of now, its Indian subsidiary is engaged in two product lines — vision care and surgical equipment — out of the three businesses globally.

In the pharma segment where it is not present in India, it has a global portfolio which includes both over-the-counter(OTC) as well as prescription drugs for eye care.

JP Singh, managing director, Bausch and Lomb Eyecare India, said that they are looking at the possibility of introducing the pharma products in the country, “We are looking at the business closely and are answering all the questions required before entering the market.”

It is not clear which route Bausch & Lomb would opt for entering the Indian market. Last year it had taken the inorganic route to break into China by acquiring 55% stake in Shandong Chia Tai Freda Pharmaceutical.
