Weighs options to protect earnings as proposal comes through
Ruffled by the proposal to bring more drugs under price control, an apprehensive pharma industry is now thinking of options to protect earnings.
While one envisages a public-private parternership providing healthcare to more people, the second proposes a halt to making drugs come under price control.
There is also a plan to sell modified versions that offer more profits. The chemicals ministry has modified its proposed pricing formula several times.
However, drugmakers are not sure if the announcement that all 354 essential drugs will come under price control is the final view. IPA, OPPI and IDMA are planning a joint meeting soon to respond to the government’s move on the price control.
