Sun pharma gains international `shine`.
Company goes global.
Sun Pharma has packed its bags and is ready to go global. The company is targeting over 50% of it’s sales from foreign markets. Its new strategy includes large buyouts in the US and in India and three proposed joint ventures in UK, Germany and France besides strengthening drug discovery.
The company will use proceed from its $350 million FCCB issue for its overseas plans. “We are in talks with various US and European companies. The acquisition is expected to be completed by 2005.” Said a company official. Sun Pharma also has a manufacturing facility in Bangladesh.
The company has set about Rs. 25 million for fermentation capacities and is scouting for opportunities on the fermentation front.
There is expected to be a major ramp- up in the number of drugs from the US, Both Sun and Caraco, a company in the US, where Sun has acquired over 63%, have filed applications for various new drugs.
The company already has a strong foothold in the therapeutic segments like psychiatry, neurology, cardiology, diabetology and gastroenterology which make for 70% of the domestic formulation sales.
