Air India express takes off to a `crash` in exports.
Air line reduses daily consignments due to budget planes.
Air India Express, A-I’s new budget airline is ready to takeoff, however, resulting in a crash of vegetable exports to the Gulf. In an advance notice on the low cost Kerela- Gulf flights, A-I has asked the vegetable exporters to reduce their daily consignments to the Gulf.
Thrivananthapuram airport is the third biggest cargo revenue maker for A-I. Out of the Rs. 800 million annual cargo earnings of the airline Rs. 250 million is contributed by the capital city of Kerela.” However, since the low budget planes are smaller it will be prudent to scale down the exports.” Said Dil Khoshi, secretary, Agricultural Exporters association.
The shock has already sent the association members to the chief minister, urging him to take up the issue with the center. The Kerela government, however, is in a fix. It was after extensive lobbying by the Antony government and later by the Chandy government that the Kerela- Gulf route was picked up in the first place.
“It will be awkward for the state government to seek reversal now, based on the exporters complaints” a senior official of state Non- Resident Keralite Welfare department was quoted saying in a newspaper.
