Pharma body draws up guidelines for pharmacist.

The disease pattern in India is changing rapidly. In such a situation, pharmacists have a major role to play. The Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) is now preparing a draft resolution to re- define the role and responsibilities of pharmacists in improving healthcare infrastructure within the country. The IPC will submit the draft to the union health ministry and will expect the center to initiate a policy guideline soon.

Pankaj Patil who is the president of IPC and is also the chairman and MD of Zydus Cadila said that the pharmacist have a major role to play in the changing scenario. “ They can be used to council patients suffering from terminal disease, organize screening and immunization programmes and even make drugs available in the remote corners of the country.” Says Patil.

The 56th session of the IPC which is to be held in Kolkata in the coming week, will also focus on the same issue.
