Biocon`s cancer drug to hit market by late `06
Biotech major Biocon Limited announced last week that the cancer drug which is currently in advanced second- phase clinical trials at Bangalore’s Kidwai’s Oncology Institute, will be ready for the Indian market late next year.
The cancer anti- body Tera HR3 has demonstrated very good tumour regressions. It also has displayed none of the skin reactions displayed otherwise in patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Tera HR3 is the first of the six cancer drugs in Biocon’s product pipeline. The drug as described by Dr. AS Arvind, CEO, Clinigene International Ltd. will head and neck cancer including mouth, tongue, jaws, pharynx and other parts affected by tobacco chewing, cigarette smoking and poor dental hygiene.
The head and neck cancer affects 90% on India’s cancer patients.
