`WHO` withdrew its drugs? Ranbaxy did.
WHO’s website last week carried an article confirming that Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited had voluntarily withdrawn all its seven antiretrovirals because the company found discrepancies in the documentation relating to the proof of products’ bioequivalance with originator medicine.
Ranbaxy also submitted a plan indicating date to give in the new reports which is expected in December 2004.
The article further went on to state that, the voluntarily withdrawal by the company was followed by removal of Ranbaxy drugs manufactured by Cipla by WHO at the Contract Research Organization (CROs), which conducts bioequivalance studies during which WHO found serious discrepancies in the results compiled by CRO and result presented to WHO.
The withdrawal by Ranbaxy is being seen by analyst as detrimental to the companies EPS. At a macro level it will affect the generic drug push of Indian pharma companies.
However many analysts also claim that this withdrawal should not have any affects, since HIV drugs do not contribute to Ranbaxy’s bottomline. What will be affected is the quality standards, which is good.
