Indian Milk Exports To Go Up 20%
Milk product exports from India is likely to jump 20% this year. India exported 25,000 tonnes of milk products in 2004 and is expected to shoot up to 30,000 tonnes this year, according to Indian Dairy Association President, Animesh Banerjee.
India, which is the world's largest milk producer, with the production of 91 million tonnes every year, could not compete in the world market due to dominance of the European Union and the US, where the governments offer various subsidies to boost milk industry.
In a bid to compete in global market, IDA is signing a MoU with Eastern and Southern Africa Dairy Association (FSADA) during the ongoing dairy industry conference. The pact with ESADA was to propagate technology-transfer and trade between Indian and the African countries. The MoU expected to create new avenue for the Indian milk industry in the global market.
