What’s Mumbai cooking?
Saarc rice exhibition to be held in December.
It’s the international year of rice, as declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations and Mumbai is ready to steam as it is preparing for the Saarc rice expo- 2004 to be held at the world trade center this December.
The Maharashtra chamber of commerce and industry, which is a state- level apex organization of the entrepreneurs functioning since 1927 together with the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (1988-89) will hold the three- day exhibition, which will be a golden platform for Saarc nations to portray their products and services. It will also provide the international buyer a comprehensive guide to the south Asian market.
Rice growers, seeds developers, exporters, fertilizers and pesticide manufacturers, research institutions etc. will be seen catering to international visitors including Asian, African and European.
India has been exporting various types of basmati rice, which has gained acceptance internationally over the years. The main objective of this mega- event will be to increase trade between Saarc nations and to avail of cost- saving benefits arising out of geographical- proximity.
