Karnataka gets up and smells the ‘coffee’.
Centralized unit for roasting and packing to be set up soon.
Karnataka which is the leading coffee producing state in India is now in the process for getting a state- of- the- art coffee roasting and packaging unit in its Hassan district. In a bid to enhance the coffee sold through its 100 odd outlets the coffee board is now scouting for a consultant to implement the project.
Though the cost for setting up the project is not known yet, a notification issued by the coffee board stated that the new unit in Karnataka would have sophisticated and powerful machinery which would run on the latest fluidized bed or air roasting technology and also the lowest capacity roasting machine is capable of producing one tonne of coffee in a of eight hours.
Similarly the packaging machines will be equally powerful and automatic with features such as online pouch forming, vacuumising and brick packing with a capacity of 200gm. to 1 Kilo gm.
Also according to the notification the coffee board will hire an international consultant to implement the project and also the consultant will execute the project on a turnkey basis. The selection will be made on the basis of a complete feasibility report
