    Tariff barriers in Indian agri- food sector pose as a hurdle.
French farm minister calls on for the opening of the Indian economy.


Even as the food processing minister invited the French agro industry to invest in India’s mega food park scheme, the visiting French farm minister Nicholas Froissier spurned the offer saying: “India is a difficult market because of high tariffs and technical barriers, marked by lack of operational transparency.”

The visiting French minister is leading a 27- member delegation consisting of officials and businessmen for tapping the huge Indian food market.

Subodh Kant Sahay, Indian food processing minister aid that the vision document of the government has estimated the size of primary food processing food industry at Rs280bn. The vision document aims at trebling the size of the food-processing sector in 10 years.

Forisser on the other hand that food processing a fertile area of co-operation amongst the two countries and a genuine convergence f interests between the authorities of the two countries in regard to the defense of geographical indications in global context.
