Nacto Pharma To Develop NDDS
Several other molecules under development
Following the patent regime, Natco Pharma is working towards development of new drug delivery systems (NDDS) and new molecules in the therapeutic segment. This would include recombinant proteins that are useful in cancer therapies, immuno suppressive agents, amino acid derivatives and various peptides for treatment of central nervous systems (CNS) disorders.
According to company officials, a few of these molecules would enter the phase I clinical trials in the next nine months. Besides research, Natco Pharma is eyeing the US and European markets for filing Drug Master Files (DMFs) and Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) and is in the process of negotiations with generic players for supply of certain generics. Along with this, the company is gearing up 15 new molecules, which are at varying stages of development and targeted at these markets.
The company has worked on 12 key products and is targeting to file about two ANDAs during the year 2004-05. It hopes to do 10-12 ANDAs on a sustained basis for the next 3-5 years, according to the annual report. With sales to the regulated markets worth over $15 million, the company is expanding its activities in the active pharmaceuticals ingredients (APIs) to these markets and has planned niche pharma intermediates.
The company proposes to make its own APIs and convert them to finished dosages. This will ensure superior quality, cost control and pricing advantage, as there is full capacity utilisation of the plants. The thrust areas during the patent regime would be to become a global player in the regulated generic markets and domestic formulations market.
Further to these research activities, the company is also upbeat on the oncology segment with Cantret and Clokeran. Towards this, the company has formed an oncology division within its marketing group for increasing the public awareness campaigns.
It is reliably learnt that the company has finalised agreements for $10 million issue of foreign currency convertible bonds/ ADRs/ GDRs. The company proposes to approach the markets by the end of this year.
