Roche eyes India as R and D manufacturing base.
GE shares the vision.
Roche Diagnostics, the $6.7bn global leader is now following other multi nationals by expanding their manufacturing and research base in India.
Currently the company has a relatively small manufacturing unit in India and is planning to expand through conducting some research work. In India research projects will mostly focus on tropical diseases like TB. These projects are likely to be set up in collaboration with India research institutions.
The company, which is an arm of the Swiss healthcare major Roche, is eyeing the country, as it foresees a increase in demand in diagnostic products. The company’s Indian operations are soon likely to soon over take its Chinese business.
Also joining Roche is GE Healthcare, the forth-largest business of General Electric company. GE is exploring options to set up a product conceptualization and clinical trial base in India for its next- generation diagnostic and medical imaging products.
